Somerset WI visit Parliament

Fifty members of the Women’s Institute from across Somerset visited Westminster for a tour of Parliament and to catch up with the county’s MPs yesterday (Monday).

The WI’s annual visit to Westminster was heavily oversubscribed after the success of previous years.

Last week I spoke in Parliament about the ongoing investigations into soldiers who served in Northern Ireland. We’ve also seen in recent weeks, so-called public interest lawyers Leigh Day bring forward a raft of further claims against soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Last Friday was Somerset Day and so, officially, the day to celebrate everything that is so wonderful about our county. To mark the occasion the County Council ran the ‘World Cup of Somerset’ in which people would vote via polls on Twitter for their favourite things about our county.

James Heappey MP calls for wild animals to be banned from circuses

 Wells MP James Heappey has pledged his support to the RSPCA’s campaign to ban the use of wild animals in circuses.

It has been revealed 18 wild animals are still used in the UK and Mr Heappey will be supporting the Wild Animals in Circuses Bill in Parliament.
