Electrification of the Great Western Mainline

The electrification of the Great Western mainline is welcome news but I want to see it come beyond Bristol and into Somerset.

The acceleration of services from Bath and Bristol will benefit local businesses but it is disappointing that the new electric trains will not be able to run from Castle Cary or Highbridge & Burnham. I’ll campaign for the continuation of the electrification on both the Bristol – Exeter line and the Newbury – Taunton line so that Somerset has the connections it needs. I’ll also make the case for this being a higher priority than building new high speed railways to the north of England.
